I'm often asked if it makes more sense to focus on eBook creation or if it makes more sense to really focus on eBook marketing. As far as I'm concerned it's not really a debate. You have to place at least 80% of your time and effort on marketing. It's funny. My very first eBook wasn't even created by me.
I bought resale rights to an already existing information product. All I did was make some changes and added myself as an author. This was permitted by the terms of the resale package. After making those changes, I started marketing the product day and night. That was my entire focus. The results were staggering. I had made nearly 40 sales in my first month.
Now don't get the wrong idea here. I'm not suggesting that the products you create should be junk. Far from it. If you cannot quickly create a high quality publication, then you should outsource the task to someone else or buy resale rights to an already existing info package. It's very important that the product you sell have a lot of quality. It will do you no good if people buy what you're selling and are dissatisfied with its quality. While it's true you cannot please everyone, I think we both know what I'm trying to say here. Don't cut corners when it comes to having a quality product.
Here's something else that I really want you to think about. The only way you'll be able to continue creating high quality information products to sell is if you have money. And you're not going to make any money until you make a sale. So your emphasis has to be on making sales and marketing. So the balance you have to strike by necessity will learn more towards marketing that creation - and that's the way it should be.
